The state wrestling tournament is underway at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines. At 103-pounds, defending champion Dominick Moyer used a reversal in the final minute to edge Ryan Osgood of Mason City 6-5.Moyer says it was a good win over Osgood who spent part of this season top ranked at the weight.Defending champion Mark Hangsleben of Urbandale advanced at 125-pounds, by recording a first period fall over Jeff Hurst of Dubuque Wahlert. Hangsleben admits there is more pressure this year as a returning champ.Lewis Central sophomore Travis Paulson improved to 41-0 by pinning Zack Cavan of Oskaloosa at 130-pounds. Last year Paulson won the state title at 112-pounds but says he feels more confident this time.Paulson will take on another unbeaten competitor, Cory Connell from Iowa City High in Friday’s quarterfinal round.Waterloo East 145-pounder Johnny Galloway stayed unbeaten with a 20-8 victory over Luke Hoskins of Newton. Galloway finished fourth a year ago as a freshman and has his sights set on a state title this year.Galloway says having been to the tournament as a freshman is a plus.
