There’s another transition in store for the state agency charged with promoting the state’s culture. Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs director Dr. Doug Larche will resign rather than face a Senate vote which would deny him the job. Larche will not speak publicly about his decision. Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows says concerns were raised about some of Larche’s ideas for the agency.Larche began working in Governor Vilsack’s office in January of 1999, then took over at the Cultural Affairs department in September when its former director left to take a job at Boston University. Larche was head of the drama department at Grandview College in Des Moines and is a published playwright.
