Immunization bill on hold

The bid to get rid of the relgious exemption for parents who do NOT want their kids to be immunized has hit a roadblock at the statehouse. The House Human Resources Committee voted yesterday to maintain the religious exemption from childhood vaccinations for dangerous diseases like mumps and small pox.Governor Tom Vilsack made his opposition known, too. He says ultimately parents need to have the ability to make those decisions and the state will probably not be able to force them to make the decisions.Senator John Redwine, a doctor from Sioux City, argues kids who are NOT immunized against dangerous diseases pose a threat to others. The matter will be debated in the full House sometime in the next few weeks.
