Growing up in Southern California, Larry Eustachy followed U-C-L-A basketball. Now, the Iowa State coach prepares to play the Bruins in the semifinal round of the Midwest regional Thursday night in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Eustachy says as a high school player, he wanted to eventually play for U-C-L-A. He says everyone in the country wanted to play for the legendary Bruins. Eustachy says the closest he got to U-C-L-A was playing for nearby Citrus Junior College.Eustachy says while climbing the ranks, he never thought of one day coachingthe Bruins. He says he likes living where you don’t have to pay for your gas in advance like you do in California.Both the Cyclone men and women are preparing for appearances in the N-C-A-A Sweet 16. Junior forward Marcus Fizer says their post-season run has been enjoyable, it has also been fun to follow the success of the women’s team.Cyclone women’s standout Megan Taylor says it has been a great season on the I-S-U campus. She says the success of the men’s team has provided motivation. The women face Penn State Saturday night in Kansas City.
