Today’s an important day. It’s the official date for the U-S Census according to Iowa Lieutenant Governor Sally Pederson.Babies born today are counted in the official tally of Iowa residents. Those born tomorrow aren’t. Pederson, who is honorary chairperson of the Census 2000 Iowa effort, says if you haven’t turned in your Census form, you have time.If you don’t return your census form, Pederson says you’ll probably get a personal visit from a Census-taker.In early March, Pederson made a special appeal to retired Iowans, asking them to count Iowa as home rather than their winter retreat in another state. Pederson says counting every Iowan possible is crucial, as the official census population count helps determine how much federal spending flows back to Iowa.
