The chairman of the Iowa Republican Party is in serious condition at a Des Moines hospital after his collapse during a meeting at the statehouse. 56-year-old Kayne Robinson was meeting with State Auditor Richard Johnson when Robinson suddenly stopped talking and slumped over in his chair. The Auditor quickly called for help, and a defibrillator at the capitol was used to re-start Robinson’s heart. Doctors say that quick action could have saved his life, as for some reason Robinson went into cardiac arrest. Doctors are running tests to determine whether Robinson has an infection or an irregular heart beat which caused his heart to stop beating. Robinson is in intensive care and a G-O-P spokeswoman expects him to be hospitalized for a week.
