An Independence man is sentenced to five years in prison for calling in a bogus bomb threat last year that cleared the Fayette County schools. Police say 18-year-old Rex Miles made the call in February of 1999 to a Waterloo radio station from a pay phone in Oelwein that led to the evacuation of five Fayette County Schools. He also was ordered to pay 73-thousand dollars to the school district for the lost day.
