Iowans should brace themselves for having gasoline prices soon hit two-dollars a gallon, according to Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley.Grassley blames oil companies for gouging consumers. Gas prices in the Midwest average a dollar-84 which is 36-cents a gallon higher than in the South. Chicago hit the national record of two-dollars-13 cents a gallon this week. Grassley says oil companies are trying to make corn-based ethanol fuel a scapegoat for the bounding prices. Grassley says politics is also playing a role in the gas price crunch.Since the Clinton/Gore Administration took over the White House, Grassley says oil production has dropped 17-percent while consumption has risen 14-percent. Grassley, a republican, says America’s dependence on foreign oil has nearly doubled since the embargoes of the 1970s.
