Iowa democrats are staying at a hotel advertised as newly renovated. Party chairman Rob Tully found out just how new the renovations were when he checked in. Tully had to wait six hours while workers hauled in the furniture, hung the drapes and installed the phone lines in his suite. His view from the hotel’s top floor looks out over the U-C-L-A campus and beyond. He calls the view “spectacular” on a clear day when the smog doesn’t block the view of the Ocean.Iowans were bused to a reception last night hosted by John Law, former executive director of the Iowa Democratic Party. Law’s home is ocean-side, on the beach. Pat Marshall of Cedar Rapids is sifting through all her invitations to find out what’s next — and whether a celebrity sighting is in store.Marshall is a member of the Democratic National Committee. She says she’s relieved the party fundraiser at the Playboy Mansion was moved, so the controversy will die down.
