With 15 starters returning, the Drake football team looks for another successful season this fall. Under Rob Ash, the Bulldogs have posted seven or more wins in the last eight seasons and he feels the program has reached the point where it can contend for the Pioneer League championship every season. After injuring his knee in the second game last year, Solon Bell returns at quarterback. He will battle sophomore Ira Vandever for the starting job.The defense will be led by All-American defensive end Mike Foster. Ash says Foster will be moved around more this year in an attempt to confuse offenses. An attractive home schedule awaits, including the season finale against the pre-season favorite in the Patriot League, Towson University.Drake opens at home on September 2nd against McKendree.
