Several thousand used car dealers across Iowa are getting stern warnings in the mail this week from the Iowa Attorney General’s office. The Consumer Protection Division says dealers need to make sure none of their vehicles are sitting on tires that have been recalled by Firestone/Bridgestone.Attorney General’s spokesman Bob Brammer says the federal government is investigating dozens of deaths which may be linked to the tires. Dealerships had better take action to ensure their vehicles’ tires are safe, or Brammer says they could face consequences.Brammer says only a few complaints have been received about the tire recall in Iowa. He says consumers have been inundated with news reports about the tires in question, but some people may have ignored the warnings and the offer of free replacement tires. The recalls are on Firestone A-T-X and A-T-X-2 tires in the P-2-3-5 size and the Wilderness tires of that same size. For more information, call Firestone at 800-465-1904 or the Iowa Attorney General at (515) 281-5926.
