Northern Iowa swept the Missouri Valley’s top individual baseball awards. Ryan Brunner was named the Valley player of the year after leading the league with 23 homers and 78 RBI. Junior Nick Ungs is the Valley’s pitcher of the year after posting a 10-1 mark with an E-R-A of one-point-eight-five.U-N-I coach Rick Heller says the players deserve the awards after putting up big numbers. Heller says he was worried they wouldn’t win both awards because the team didn’t win the league. He says the two have carried the ballclub and given them an opportunity to advance even further.U-N-I opens the Valley tournament tomorrow night against Wichita State.
