About 43-thousand Iowans were on the unemployment rolls last month. April’s unemployment rate in Iowa was two-point-seven percent — down a fraction from March. Sha Khan of the Iowa Workforce Development agency says that counters the national trend, which saw the jobless rate go up. Khan says there’s a good mix of industries in Iowa, and people who are laid off are able to find other work. Khan, who is a statistician, sees no real trends in the latest jobless numbers. Chickasaw County had the state’s highest unemployment rate, at six-point-three percent, while Hancock County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate. Iowa’s unemployment rate has stayed below three percent for 40 consecutive months. The national unemployment rate in April was four-and-a-half percent.
