Two republican state senators have decided not to run for Governor. Senator Jeff Lamberti of Ankeny says he’s not running in 2002 for personal reasons. He says the age of his kids and his age made him feel it wasn’t the time to enter a statewide race.Lamberti, who is a 38-year-old attorney, says he may run for Governor sometime in the future. He says he wouldn’t rule out something within the next ten years.Senator Steve King of Kiron also says he will not run for Governor this time around. In a prepared statement, King said a “campaign based upon principle does not have the prospect for success that it had last March” when he first considered running. Two other republicans are pressing forward with their campaigns. Representative Steve Sukup is an engineer from Dougherty and Bob Vander Plaats of Sioux City is a former teacher who’s running a care center for the disabled.
