A group of young Iowans will see if they have an “art” for designing the future. The Young Iowans Arts Council is a new group of 22 handpicked members from all over the state. Iowa Arts Council Director Anita Walker says they range in age from 16 to 22 years. The panel will meet June 7 to brainstorm some ideas to share with the state cultural caucus June 8.The panel will be asked for ideas that will keep young people in the state and activities that interest youth. Walker says while the state’s done a good job of targeting kids, it has missed getting input from the age group between high-school seniors and graduating college kids. The following day is the statewide cultural caucus, a gathering with the theme: “Imagine Iowa 2010.” Walker adds when the Arts Council contacted other states to see if they’re doing anything similar, they weren’t…but will be watching our youth arts project with an eye toward creating their own.
