Change in bats cuts down on "dingers" in high school baseball

One Iowa high school baseball coach says new regulations governing bats have cut down on the number of home runs this season. New rules in place this season have made the barrel of aluminum bats narrower and the bats themselves heavier. Bill Wuebker, the coach of defending class 1A state champion Granville Spalding, says through five games he has seen just one home run.Wuebker says many balls that would have been home runs a year ago have become long outs and hitters will have to adjust.Wuebker likes the change. He says teams will have to adjust by bunting more and using more strategy. He says that makes it tougher on your pitching and defense.Prior to the change, one study concluded that home runs had quadrupled at the high school level in recent years.
