Linn County authorities filed new charges this week against Anthony Flowers, the man accused of robbing a Cedar Rapids bank last fall and escaping from a South Dakota jail two months ago. Assistant U-S Attorney Sean Berry explains a different version of the bank-robbery charge was filed, with higher penalties possible because it’s a “third-strike” indictment.Flowers has prior felony convictions and could face life in prison if he’s convicted on the federal bank robbery charges. Berry says officers found a shotgun and two semi-automatic guns when they arrested Flowers June first in Dubuque, so he’s also charged with being a felon in possession of firearms, another federal charge.
