Oelwein is closing in on the Northeast Iowa Conference baseball title. The Huskies are 13-2 in league play after a Monday doubleheader sweep of Waukon and are ranked second in the latest class 3A Radio Iowa/Coaches Association poll. Coach Steve Sanders feels his team is playing its best as the post season approaches. He says they were 32-0 last year before stumbling.Sanders says the good pitching has been backed up by solid defense. He says they have a .950 fielding average and usually don’t make many errors in a row to give up a big inning. Sanders says the biggest advantage with this team has been the chemistry. He says they don’t have a lot of power through the lineup, but are steady throughout.Oelwein returns to action tomorrow against Charles City.
