Suspected killer returned to Iowa

The funeral’s Friday for Angela Hyke and Ashley Lucas, the Cresco mother and daughter who were found in a shallow grave in Kansas. The man charged with killing them is jailed in Iowa.24-year-old Clay Thomas is charged with first-degree murder after prosecutors say he killed the woman and her child, drove them in the trunk of Angela’s car to Kansas, and dumped their bodies. There’s enough there for several charges, in both states. Assistant Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller, who has the same name as his boss, is working the case.He says if someone commits one crime in one state and another crime in a second state , both states could file charges and try the offender. Miller, though, says an offender’s often charged only in the state where he’s committed the worst crime.In the Howard County case, investigators think the woman and child were killed while still in Cresco. Their bodies were found along a highway in Kansas, and the woman’s car was outside a house in Wichita where Thomas was found and arrested. The next court hearing for Thomas is expected to be August 6 in Howard County. His bond is set at one million dollars.
