State officials today approved half-a-million dollars in aid for the proposed Target stores distribution center in Cedar Falls. Iowa Department of Economic Development spokesman Phil Thomas says the money is tied to a promise by the company to create 445 new jobs in the next three years. The jobs will pay an average starting wage of 13-dollars and 41-cents an hour. Thomas says the center will send out the Minnesota-based company’s general merchandise to Target stores in Iowa and surrounding states. Target officials say they’ll eventually employ 900 people at the 97-million dollar center. Half the state money approved today for Target is in the form of a loan, with the other half a forgivable loan.
