Center Point, Iowa, native Peg Carver was at a meeting in a building across the river from the World Trade Center when the attack began. She says the first plane hit the tower when the second plane hit. Carver says no one was thinking about a terrorist attack after the first tower was struck. They all speculated that it was merely an accident, until the second plane hit. She says hysteria broke loose when the first tower collapsed. People were crying and very concerned about friends in the building.Creston, Iowa, native Tony Mansour works in New York City’s financial district, about six blocks from the Trade Center. He says there was initially shock as they watched the tower burn.Mansour was in his office when the Trade Center collapsed. He says a “tidal wave of debris was coming down the street and it turned pitch black outside.”
