The Iowa Court of Appeals has rejected a northeast Iowa farmer’s legal argument about contracts he made with his local co-op. Dale Recker of Arlington argued hedge-to-arrive contracts he signed weren’t legal, as neither party knew the risks involved. But the Court of Appeals has rejected that idea, and ruled in favor of the Maynard Co-op. According to court documents, Recker owes the co-op about 35-thousand dollars for contracts originally signed seven years ago. The Maynard Co-op has about nine hundred farmer-members.
