The holiday gift of a hat may seem too obvious for a kid, but a hat may also be one of the best gifts, according to a professor at Iowa State University. Mike Godfrey, a professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, says kids can change their personalities and perspectives on the world simply by changing hats. Since every kid is different, he says there are dozens, even hundreds, of good hats out there. While many hats let kids to use their imaginations in a good way, Godfrey says some hats may generate a negative reaction in a child — and those should be ones from which parents steer clear. He says hats that may bring questionable behavior in kids include: cowboy, pirate, police, soldier, sorcerer and Power Rangers helmets.
