A bank robbery in Urbandale this morning led to the death of two men and the closing of part of the Interstate. Police say four people robbed a bank in the Des Moines suburb and then led them on a high-speed chase that ended up in the northbound lanes of Interstate-35/80 on the western edge of the city. The alleged robber’s van stopped and cops exchanged gunfire with them. Two suspects were hit. One died at the scene, another was taken to the hospital where he died. The two others are in custody. Traffic on the Interstate was rerouted for several hours while investigators combed the shooting scene. The body of the slain robber lay covered with a blanket on the highway pavement until the investigation at the scene was completed. The names of the four robbers have not yet been released. Traffic was backed up for miles during the investigation, but is now moving again.
