As tax deadline day draws closer, Iowans may consider lending a hand to the Iowa State Fair via their state tax forms. The “Corn Dog Tax Checkoff” is in its ninth year and has generated more than 823-thousand dollars. Estee Walter is spokeswoman for the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. She says this year’s goal is 125-thousand dollars. The checkoff netted the State Fair about 95-thousand dollars last year, with the average donation per taxpayer of about 11-dollars. The amount specified will be reduced from your refund or added to the amount you owe. Walter says the fair has done a lot with the money the checkoff generates. Those who attend the 2002 Iowa State Fair will notice where their Corn Dog Tax Checkoff donations are being used — with the renovation of the Varied Industries building, improvements to sidewalks, and more shaded areas.Paper and electronic filers can find the Corn Dog checkoff on line 16 of Iowa Tax Form 1040A or line 59b of Iowa Tax Form 1040.
