With spring football over the attention now turns to next season for the Hawkeyes and Cyclones. At Iowa State, quarterback Seneca Wallace will be mentioned on some pre-season Heisman Trophy lists. Cyclone coach Dan McCarney says the school will promote Wallace during the off season but his job is to focus on the team. McCarney says the attention is fine, but he says the focus is not on post-season honors, he wants the team to take on a tough schedule and achieve some things. Wallace says getting Heisman attention is nothing if the team doesn’t go out and win.Wallace admits it will be flattering to see his named mentioned. He says it’s fun to mention it, but when it comes time to play, he’ll put it behind.Wallace had 203-yards of passing as the Cardinal squad defeated the White team 57-40 in the spring game.Over in Iowa City, the Black shirts downed the White shirts 38-3 to close out spring drills. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz felt it was a productive spring for his team. He says the effort and attitude on the field was tremendous and they’re showing a lot more confidence than past springs, something Ferentz says is a byproduct of winning.Ferentz says the Hawkeyes will need a good off-season of work to get ready for the upcoming season. He says he’s quick to remind his team that nothing is automatic, and there are plenty of examples of that in the Big Ten Conference.Brad Banks solidified his role as the starting quarterback by completing 18 of 21 passes for 337-yards to lead the regulars past the reserves 38-3.
