A number of high school champions were crowned during Friday’s session of the Drake Relays. West Des Moines Valley’s Sara Boisen used a lean at the tape to claim the girl’s 100-meter hurdles crown. She says there’s a lot of good competition, but says she new if she ran hard she could do it.Derek Casey of Cherokee won the boys’ 100-meter hurdles and says his focus was on getting a good start.Meredith Kosmacek of Tri-Center Neola came from behind to win the girls 100-meter dash she says she didn’t know for a while if she could do it. Calvin Davis of Iowa City High outdueled Carroll’s Adam Haluska to win the boys’ 100-meter dash. He says they’re good friends from playing basketball, and says they’ve talked about the race over the summer. Davis says he was happy and a little surprised to get the win.
