Iowa’s business sector is “very solid” according to a Creighton University professor who conducts a monthly survey of business leaders and supply managers. Dr. Ernie Goss says the economy is rebounding, but inflation is a problem. Iowa businesses are getting more orders for goods.Goss says that has translated into pretty good production levels, but there still isn’t a lot of new hiring in Iowa or the other eight states he surveys. Goss says those “Mid-American” states are doing quite well when compared with the rest of the country. He says the price pressures and lack of hiring look a lot like his numbers.Goss says there are fears of a “double-dip” recession, but those concerns will ease if businesses start to see profits increase and being investing in equipment.
