The weekend’s rain may have dampened some days in the park but it was good news for Iowa farmers.State climatologist Harry Hillaker says the rain came where it was needed, and even a bit more than some would wish. No more rain’s forecast for a few days, and it should be a good start to the growing season. In Keokuk they got about four and-a-half inches Saturday and in the south a couple inches. Hillaker says it was enough to end all talk of a drought this spring. Some areas are pretty soggy, but worries about lack of subsoil moisture are over. There’ve been good rains the last month. Hillaker says even in places that got a lot of rain over the weekend, it’s not enough to ruin crops that are in the ground. He says it’d just be nice to dry out now so farmers can finish the planting.
