Travel expected to be up this holiday

More Iowans are expected to be on the road this holiday weekend, which is a change of pace.The previous major holidays since the September 11th attacks saw declines in vacationers, but Triple-A/Iowa spokeswoman Barb Buchholz says that should turn around this Memorial Day weekend.Travel nationwide is expected to be up one-percent from last year as many people put off vacationing last fall but are now ready to get going. One plus, Buchholz says it’s cheaper to drive, as gasoline prices are down 30-to-40-cents a gallon from a year ago.Buchholz says about 29-million Americans will travel by motor vehicle this weekend, a two-percent rise from last year. Only four million will fly though — that’s a seven-percent drop.
