Des Moines Roosevelt scored two runs in the first and one in the third to upset top-ranked Council Bluffs Lewis Central 3-2 in the 4A first round. Roosevelt’s Jeff Ratashak held Lewis Central to two runs and says the two runs his team got in the first inning were big.Ratashak says there wasn’t a point where he felt confident the game was in hand.The win came against Lewis Central’s top pitcher, Jake Hansen. Roosevelt coach Lou Yacinich says they decided to just do what they do best, swing the bats.Yacinich says getting the first two runs was important, especially playing the top-ranked team.Lewis Central coach Lee Toole says his team lost confidence after getting down early and then struggled to get back in the game.Toole gives credit to Roosevelt for executing their plan.Lewis Central got the tying run to first in the seventh, but couldn’t get him home.
