It’s a split verdict for a fired Davenport cop. A federal jury yesterday found 47-year-old Greg Collins innocent of charges he stole money seized as evidence but guilty of returning firearms to a drug user. Collins had been the commander of the police gang and vice squad. Prosecutors alleged he stole nearly four grand. The money had been seized by a task force investigating an alleged gambling ring. They also accused Collins of giving guns back to a man he should have known was a drug user. The trial went four days. And Collins could get 10 years in the pin and a$250,000 fine. He still faces numerous theft, misconduct and fraud charges in Scott County. He has pleaded innocent and will go on trial again later this month.
