A man’s been arrested in the death of a homeless woman earlier this month in Des Moines. Neil Schultz is chief of administrative services at the Polk County Sheriff’s office. He says 45-year-old William Lee Carr of Des Moines has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Robin Marie Ridgeway. Schultz says Ridgeway lived in a tent in a wooded, undeveloped area on the capital city’s north side, not far from the apartment where her assailant lived. He says Carr developed as a suspect early in the investigation, and detectives have interviewed nearly 50 people and recovered a “significant amount of physical evidence” from the crime scene. He says it’s not an area that’s populated by anyone, or a campground or recreation area, just a wooded spot where Robin Ridgeway and her boyfriend, Matthew Popp, had been staying in a makeshift campsite. No information’s been released regarding possible motive or cause of death, just that the woman died of “multiple injuries.” Carr is charged with murder; his bond set at half a million dollars.
