Teacher uses 9-11 as a learning experience

Some teachers are working the attacks of September eleventh into their lesson plans to help students answer the questions everyone has, and to put it into world and historic perspective. Lois Crowley teaches “global studies” at Northwest Junior High in Iowa City.She says they’ll look at world politics in the year since the attacks.Crowley says they’ve all been watching more news, and students seem more somber when the subject comes up, and she plans to talk about how the students have been affected by September 11th. Crowley watched the events unfold on television last year with her students through a network created for schools, “Channel One.”She says they were “pretty shaken up” by it, and had the same reaction many people did, being shaken and wondering how it was going to affect them. While world politics and news has always been important, this has brought it to the forefront and Crowley uses it to demonstrate why it’s important to study geography and politics. She says they’ll look at the politics of President Bush’s call to attack Iraq, and the impact on events since then.
