The Iowa State University Extension is celebrating its first-ever “Extension Week”. Cerro Gordo County Extension Director Tim Rollins says many people don’t realize what the extension offices do for communities or why they were created. It’s a way for land grant universities, like I-S-U, to “extend” research and information gathered on the campus to the 99 counties. Rollins says Extension is more than just 4-H, the Master Gardener program, and ag-related programs. Rollins says as the needs of Iowa residents have changed, the Extension has changed too, in the programs it offers.Rollins says a 25-percent budget cutback in the last two years has had an effect on programs offered by Extension. Rollins says the budget cutbacks have meant changes for some programs. For more information about I-S-U Extension, surf to www.extension.iastate.edu.
