Twenty Maytag workers in Newton will be out of a job at year’s end. A regional distribution center will be closed. The 20 workers may be offered jobs in other parts of Maytag’s operations. The company’s managers don’t know what they’ll do with the 175-thousand-square-foot building. The closure is linked to Maytag’s recent purchase of Amana. With the purchase, the number of regional distribution centers in the company jumped from seven to 15. With the Newton facility and others closing, Maytag will pare down to eight distrubtion centers.
