A scuffle at a southeast Iowa peace rally may lead to a battle in court. Jeffrey Schneider was arrested by Fairfield police last Sunday for fighting with officers as they warned his wife not to stand in a highway during an antiwar protest. Schneider has sent a letter to the city, calling for the immediate dismissal of the arresting officers for “unacceptable behavior of out of control abusers of power from a private little army without a commander.” Candice Campbell-Schneider was first approached by officers for stepping off the curb and says they’ll go ahead with legal action against the city with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union. Fairfield Police Chief Randy Cooksey says he sees no violation in policy or procedure and defends his officers’ actions.
