Iowans who are dreaming of a white Christmas may consider heading to northern Minnesota for the holidays. Temperatures for the next several days across much of the Hawkeye State are expected to be ten to fifteen degrees above normal in the mid to upper-40s. State climatologist Harry Hillaker says it’s possible the trend will hold out through the 25th, as we’ve been pretty dry the last month or so.Hillaker says the advent of a white Christmas is always a little touch-and-go in Iowa, but he’s not ruling it out this year. He says Central Iowa has about a 50-50 chance of a white Christmas. In central Iowa, there’s only been a white Christmas in four of the last ten years. The odds vary across Iowa from about one-third of the time in Southern Iowa and two-thirds of the time in the Northern part of the state. The high tomorrow is expected to hit 47 in Des Moines. The normal high is 34.
