The college basketball season resumes this weekend after a break for exams. There is an in-state women’s matchup in Des Moines tomorrow as Drake hosts Iowa. Drake coach Lisa Stone says both teams have some veterans mixed with a number of newcomers.Stone says the in-state games always provide a lot of emotion and says it will be a came of overcoming fatigue as both teams are coming off finals. Stone says guarding Iowa in the half-court is the key.On Sunday in men’s action Iowa State hosts Drake. Iowa State is 7-1 and Drake coach Kurt Kanaskie says Tim Barnes gives the Cyclones something they did not have last season, a true point guard.Kanaskie says the in-state games always provide added motivation, and especially so too when they’re playing a Big 10 or Big 12 team.Iowa returns to action at home Sunday against Liberty. The Hawks are 6-2 but coach Steve Alford says turnovers continue to be a problem. He says its a problem of his players, not good defenders, as he says most of the turnovers are passing mistakes. Alford at this point he is happy with the progress at 6-2..
