With Valentine’s Day a matter of hours away, flower buyers may find themselves -almost- having to take out a loan to impress their loved ones. Be prepared to spend a lot of green for the red buds. LeAnn Green, who owns a Muscatine flower shop, says single stem roses are six-dollars each, that’s up fifty-percent in the past few weeks. And to get a twelve of them? She’s charging 68-50, delivered. Green admits, not everyone is shelling out that kind of money. Green says she’s seeing more conservative spending this year. Not many customers are splurging for the big sprays of roses as she thinks with Valentine’s Day on a Friday, more romantics are stockpiling the cash for dinners and weekend getaways. Green is adding to her staff as the big day approaches, with extra delivery people and designers.Valentine’s Day is often the busiest day of the year for Iowa florists, rivalled only by Mother’s Day.
