Iowa Congressman Tom Latham hopes we don’t have to go to war, but says it seems like the only solution at this point. Latham says Chief Weapons Inspector Hans Blix’s report to the U-N Security Council has not cooled the heels of the White House about the situation with Iraq. He says everyone wants peace, and says if Saddam voluntarily disarms or something happens to him, that would take care of the problem. The White House has said Saddam has “weeks, not months” to comply with the U-N resolutions that he disarm, and Latham agrees something must happen now instead of waiting around as he says this has gone on for 12 years. Latham expects Germany and France to step up to the plate when they are called upon to help in the war. Latham made his comments in Clear Lake and Mason City during the dedication of his new regional offices.
