Maytag is recalling more than 23-thousand gas ranges. Jim Powell, spokesman for the Newton-based appliance maker, says “Gemini” brand gas stoves sold between July 2002 and February 2003 are being recalled because they could cause a small “flashback” when customers set the oven to broil, or to heat using the upper burner. They’ve had nine reports of this kind of “flashback” in which consumers say they suffered singed hair or minor burns. Powell says customers who have one of the recalled Gemini ranges can call Maytag to schedule in-home repairs to the appliance. Powell says the customers can call Maytag at 866-580-9177 between eight AM and five P-M EST. Powell says Maytag is working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to contact owners and fix the recalled appliances. The repair work will be done free of charge.
