Unlike Pella’s Tulip Festival, the Bix Jazz Festival in Davenport or the statewide bicycle ride, the latest major event coming to Iowa likely -won’t- be promoted by state tourism officials. Owners of a strip club just outside the Des Moines city limits says they’ve landed what’s considered the SuperBowl of events for their industry this fall — the Miss Nude World Pageant. The event has been held in Atlanta and Miami in recent years and is expected to draw ten-thousand spectators during its weeklong run in late October. A spokesman for the Iowa Family Policy Center is quoted as saying the pageant will be bad for Des Moines as it degrades women. The woman who wins the crown will also win ten-thousand dollars based on what judges see as her facial beauty, figure, personality, talent and creativity. Two Iowa women are expected to be among the dozens of competitors.
