An Iowa man is now charged with the murder of his son in California. The story begins Tuesday in the Los Angeles area, where Des Moines resident Anthony Lopez picked up his young son from the boy’s mother’s house for what he said would be a shopping trip. The woman got suspicious after the two didn’t return for many hours and called police. L.A. County deputies pulled over Lopez in his van Wednesday and searched it, where they found the body of the 22-month-old stuffed in a duffel bag. Lopez claims the boy choked to death on a toy and an autopsy was performed. While the autopsy results were not released, investigators say they did have enough evidence to file murder charges. Lopez is to be arraigned next week.
