Iowa gas prices have shot up, at the same time pump prices nationwide have declined. Angela Chen of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says that’s unusual. Chen says Iowa gets its gasoline from different supply channels than do folks on the coasts, and the inventory in the Midwest is “pretty tight” right now. However, Chen expects prices to decline soon. Chen says supplies are building and prices should come down in the next couple of weeks. The D-N-R’s latest fuel price survey found that after a significant drop in gas prices in April and early May, a price spike has put the average price of a gallon of unleaded at a dollar-49.
