The cochair of the Republican National Committee came to Iowa this week to rally women to vote to reelect President Bush for a second term. Ann Wagner says Democrats no longer have a lock on the female vote. The only “gender gap” in politics today, she says, is the lack of democrat influence with men, and Wagner says in the 2002 election republicans split the women’s votes with democrats. Wagner also says women support Bush because he champions causes important to them like education and homeland security. Wagner doesn’t think anyone can touch Bush’s strength in defending the homeland and with all the success stories about homeland security she thinks this is a safer nation. The GOP’s doing well, and Wagner says it’s largely because women like his tone and optimism as well as his support of healthcare, the economy, national security and the security of families and communities. Speaking to the Iowa Federation of Republican Women, Wagner joked she’d come to give some relief after the weekend’s parade of Democratic presidential camdidantes campaigning in Iowa.
