Businesses in Sioux County will be charging an extra penny sales tax. According to the unofficial results from the Sioux County Auditor’s office 1,774 votes were cast in favor of the measure, and 1,469 people voted no. The extra one-cent will be added to the current sales tax beginning January first, and will be in force for up to 10 years. The money will go toward improvements at the eight public schools in Sioux County. Each school will receive an estimated 528-dollars-and-14-cents per student. Most of the Sioux County School districts have pledged to use the money for property tax relief.
