The best of times, the worst of times…Iowa shows up among rankings of the both nation’s richest and its poorest counties. The money’s pretty evenly distributed, for a state that ranks 34th overall in per-capita income. Of the 250 U.S. counties with the lowest per-capita income, only one of Iowa’s 99 counties makes the list…Decatur County, right on the Missouri border in a rural part of the state that’s had a couple of dry years. Three counties made the TOP 250 richest of the nation’s 3,110-counties. They’re some of the most metropolitan — Polk, Linn and Johnson Counties. The first two are Iowa’s most populous, but Johnson County is smaller than Scott or Black Hawk … but it contains Iowa City and the University of Iowa.
