Bobbe Carney wants to take the Iowa women’s golf program to the Big Ten’s first division. Carney was recently named Iowa’s head coach last week after serving on an interim basis this past year. She says being the interim coach let her see how she liked the situation and she says it didn’t take long for her to see she liked the job.Carney had been a Hawkeye assistant in the mid 80s and from 1991 to 2002 was a teaching pro in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She says she got out of coaching to work with her daughters, who also play golf. Iowa finished tenth in this past season’s Big Ten tournament and Carney says her goal is to have to program in the upper half of the conference on a consistent basis. She replaced Diane Thomason as head coach after she accepted an administrative job in the Hawkeye athletic department.
