A truck driver was injured in a fiery crash near Marshalltown today. The semitrailer carrying 10-thousand gallons of gasoline failed to negotiate the turn on Highway 330 near Marshalltown, rolled over, and burst into flames. The fire created a huge pillar of smoke over Marshalltown. Marshalltown Fire Chief Larry Squires says the driver did survive the wreck. He says the driver got out of the truck and was taken to the Marshalltown hospital, but he does not know the man’s condition. Several area fire departments were called to the scene, but Squires says they decided not to put the fire out. He says all of the cells in the tanker were ruptured, so letting it burn was the best way to deal with the accident environmentally. Squires doesn’t believe any of the fuel ran off or will be an environmental hazard. Traffic was rerouted around the area of the accident.
